Getting Henna @ Little India, Malaysia
One of many things that I miss from living as an expat is spending time with my best friend. That’s why our Malaysia trip is one of the trips that is memorable for me, especially since it was our first abroad trip together.
Malaysia has much to offer, from its delicious cuisine, antique museums, modern art exhibitions, picturesque landscapes, vibrant culture to lively markets. And Kuala Lumpur as the capital city offers affordable attractions, which makes it more appealing for a travel destination for you to consider on your next global adventure.
What to do in Kuala Lumpur?
1. Go to PETRONAS Twin Towers
PETRONAS is the landmark of Malaysia. It consists of two twin towers and remains as the tallest twin towers in the world. Besides that, it is also the tallest building in Malaysia. These towers are used for office buildings and the headquarter of PETRONAS oil and gas company. However, you can also buy a ticket and climb to the 41st and 42nd floor and enjoy the panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur from the Skybridge as a top attraction.

2. Visit Batu Cave
Batu Cave is one of Kuala Lumpur’s most popular tourist attractions. From a far distance, you could already see the Lord Murugan Statue in gold colour at 42.7 metres in height. There are 272 steps of stairs that one can climb to walk up to the heart of the cave. Tamil Hindus celebrate a holy festival every year celebrating Lord Murugan by carrying offerings for the gods. Here, you will also find monkeys around the caves. In the end, it will take you approx. 15-20 minutes to climb the stairs. My advice, stay away from the monkeys and beware of your stuff!

3. Shop at Central Market
Central Market is one of my favourite places in Kuala Lumpur. They literally seem to be having all the things that I like here. From souvenirs that you can buy as gifts for your relatives or friends, until snacks or even food, you can find them here. There are a lot of sellers, meaning there are many options for you! It is a vibrant place and if you love shopping, you might spend more time here. My tip, do bargain nicely if you want to buy the stuff. It is a market afterall 🙂

4. Check the available art and museum exhibitions
Well, why are they special? I know, art and also museum exhibitions are everywhere around the globe. And it might not interest you if you are not an artsy type. However, please do check them. When we were in Kuala Lumpur, we just walked and strolled around and stumbled into a few interesting art exhibitions. The thing is they are not being displayed everyday. So, who knows, maybe they will be displaying something that might interest you on your visiting day.

5. Explore Chinatown and Little India in Brickfields
Read the names. Are you getting there? We stayed in Chinatown and we loved it. The streets were decorated with red lanterns. Stalls were everywhere, food stalls, good stalls, you name it. Explore it day and night, and you will spot the differences. I love how at night, things are livelier in some ways, i.e. the popping lantern. We then went to Little India and had fun. We tried Indian food like Nasi Briyani and Prata, visited temples, and did henna. It was interesting because there was a ceremony at the temple and the lady who did our henna was really nice. She told us that for the Indians, it’s called Mehendi and not Henna.

6. Spoil your tongue and be local
I don’t know how strong your stomach is. But seriously, if you want to try the local experience, buy your meal from the food stalls. They are everywhere and the locals eat there. Isn’t it fun trying something new that you normally haven’t tried before. Maximize your street food experience since street food is also a culture here. Happy eating!

Well, if you have never been to Malaysia, maybe you can start with Kuala Lumpur as your opening gate to Malaysia. With my summary on top things to do in Kuala Lumpur above, I hope that you are intrigued to pack your bag and consider Malaysia to be your next globetrotting adventure!
