Q & A on My Expat Journey

Taking a moment with the blooming flowers @ Lodz Botanical Garden, Lodz, Poland

How did I become an expat?
For a start, I decided to pursue my education abroad. I chose Poland and the journey has been continuing from there until now.

But why?
Why not? Familiar with that ‘fire’ that the youngsters usually have, the spirit that you can conquer the world if you want to. That spirit has brought me here, I am sure that I can survive under unfamiliar circumstances (different language, culture, people) and still enjoy life.

Did it feel right?
Moving abroad is one of the best things that has happened to me.

And why?
Here are some of the perks
I learn a new language – German
I seize new opportunities – internship, scholarship, apprenticeship
I can travel more – to the other side of the world, Europe
I build global friendship – networking
I met the love of my life – life partner, extended family
I love my family even more – distance plays a big role

Is it easy?
Imagine building your life from 0, it is far away from easy. Missing parts of your old life; family, friends, career? How about communication; having to learn a new language at this age? Now, dealing with the bureaucracies; passport, visa, and residence permit, they can be really complicated.

Ever want to give up?
As tiring as it might be, no. Haha. Living away from home ‘grows’ me. It has been rewarding me with experiences I couldn’t even imagine in the first place. Point is, nothing in the world comes easy and good things take time.

Your home away from home is by choice and destiny. Do something that you feel is right. Live somewhere where you feel you belong. Love somebody that loves you back. Live your life like there’s no tomorrow.
