I asked myself how often do I give thanks for every little thing that happens in my life every day? Am I grateful for being alive, for the fact that I am breathing, currently, right here and right now? For the fact that I have people who actually care for me? That I am able to rest under a roof every night, have access to clean water, change my dirty clothes to clean ones, and do not have to worry what to eat tomorrow. These simple things are some daily things that are often overlooked. ‘’People tend to forget,’’ that I always remember. But what they forget is something that needs a constant reminder, and this reminder sometimes comes in an unexpected and unpleasant way.
I saw an accident a few days ago. Literally it just happened in front of my eyes. A teenager around 16 years old was riding an e-roller followed by his friend behind him on a bike. My husband and I were walking on the sidewalk as this teenager fell from his e-roller. It was shocking for all of us, for my husband and I and for his friend. This teenager fell to the front and hit his face to the ground. For God sake, he didn’t move. We were startled for a few seconds before reality snapped back and slapped us again. My husband and I ran to him. His friend came towards him and I heard him asked, ‘’Are you okay?’’ This teenager answered weakly, ‘’No.’’
Not knowing what I should I exactly do, I said to the teenager’s friend that I will move their bike and e-roller to the edge of the street and asked, ‘’Should I call an ambulance?’’ He didn’t answer. I was quite sure that he was more shocked than I was, since that is his friend who was motionless on the ground. His friend still didn’t move, so he rolled him to see his face and I saw how he bleed through the open wound under his jaw. I asked my husband to run and call the authorities from the nearest metro station. Beside the teenager, I saw the broken glasses of a beer bottle. I assume he was drinking. Not long after, my husband came back with the authorities.

We left the scene after we were no longer needed. But it took us quite some time to be normal again. Once we arrived home, we hugged each other and were thankful that we were blessed along the way. Accidents can happen just in a second, without prediction and out of nowhere. Sometimes we endure hard times and things seem to go in the directions that we don’t want them to go. However, count your blessings, no matter how small. Cherish every little thing that makes your day good today. Once you realize that you are okay, then you can be the blessing for others 🙂
