5 Things To Do When You’re Sick on Your Trip

Nobody wishes to be sick on the trip. However, you just can’t avoid this situation somehow. Heck! This had happened to us as well. Our last trip to Romania took a turn and Dave got sick during the trip. It was quite scary and had escalated from mild to never ending puking and restroom business (if you know what I mean). Because of this, I had to call an emergency in the end, which resulted in an ambulance and paramedic team coming to our pension. Since that dreaded experience, we really wish that no one should have ever gone through that kind of situation.

But, what if you got sick during your trip. Well, do not panic! This is not certainly not ideal, but it’s not the end of the world. Go follow these 5 steps to act accordingly to your symptoms:1. Check your medical bag
I hope you have this with you since this is very essential in traveling. This bag is a must have during each trip and it should contain all kind of medicines of probable familiar diseases of yours.

2. Take a note on your symptoms
Trace back your days during this trip. Try to recall and remember where you were, how did you feel, what you ate. After that, take some notes about i.e. how long have you been feeling this, do you get better after consuming your brought from home meds, and if your meds don’t help…

3. Check with your medical insurance
Because being sick overseas could be expensive. So, call your medical insurance and ask whether they can assist & give you recommendation with the local doctors (note that language barrier could be tricky).

4. Find a doctor
In our case, it was Sunday and every doctor was closed, the nearest hospital was miles away and I sadly can not drive. So, our only option was to call 112 for an emergency, and they sent us an ambulance.

5. Go home
Last option, but probably could be necessary! When you have to go, you will go back home. When should you do this? If you aren’t getting better after local paramedic treatment. For Dave, the antibiotics did help, but mentally he felt just better already after being home.
