How It All Started

I was working as an Account Executive in a post-production house in Jakarta, the capital city of my home country, Indonesia. It was a productive working place and my coworkers were fun. Talking about the bosses? Better bosses do not exist. Let me explain more. Can you imagine eating lunch together at a long table daily with them and your coworkers? Playing Dance Dance Revolution or FIFA together? Having night out sessions together on your weekend with your coworkers, even clubbing, yes? The answer is probably no. But I had it.

So, why moved?

Good question. Now let me ask you something, have you ever had the feeling that you want to conquer the world? By all means, really curious what would happen if you are just being outside your comfort zones. What may change and what would stay the same? I was on that phase. I was literally in my prime 20’s, already had a boyfriend at that time, and decided to move out and start over.

I am passionate about Marketing, it is a wonderful knowledge if you know how to implement it right. I am not talking about capitalism here. It is more like promoting the better goods or even branding yourself. Therefore, I decided to pursue my Master degree in International Marketing. After all, we all are global citizens in this era of globalisation, right? At that moment, I was still working and at the same time busy researching Universities and sending my application. In the end, I found the three Universities that suited my purposes and budget.

The enrolments were sent to a university in Czech Republic, a university in Lithuania, and a university in Poland. Approximately two months later, I received official acceptance letters from those three Universities. That they would be waiting for me in September for the orientation. But..

..my best friend is getting married. No joking, she is one of the most important people in my life and her happiness is really important to me. That’s why I do not want to miss one of her biggest days. Plus my parents being the Asian parents, worrying so much about letting their daughter go abroad by herself, even though I have been living by myself in the capital city since I was 17 years old.

Luckily, my father has a good friend in Germany. Being the neighbouring country, Poland had won the place. ‘’In case something happens, there is somebody within your range, ‘’ he said. Well, 12 hours drive by bus is not exactly by range. But it is probable if we are talking about the other continent’s scale. Coincidence is that the orientation date is one week after my best friend’s wedding date. ‘’How the universe works in a mysterious way,’’ crossed my mind instantly at the moment.

Having the letter of acceptance from my future university in Poland, approval from my parents, the availability on my best friend’s wedding day, I handed over my resignation letter to my boss, stating that I am able to work until next month. It was heartbreaking for me, and presumably for her as well at the moment. I could hear tremble in her voice as she spoke, as she is a very cheerful person daily. However my decision was final and I wanted to take what the world has to offer, the world outside my comfort zone.
