Btw do you know what is the difference between Croque Madame and Croque Monsieur?
It all started when I had the leftover loaves that I wanted to eat differently. You know, something more than just spreading butter, jam or even toasting. That’s where I remember that I had Croque Madame from the store near my house. So, I researched and found out that basically making Croque Madame is just like making American grilled cheese. It’s easy, fast and you can elevate it to make it more luxurious and full-filling as your preference.
So, here is what I did in making my version of Croque Madame.
Preparing Ingredients
For the bread
2 slice of white bread
Mustard
Butter
2 filet of salted Salmon
Chili Sauce
Roasted shallots
Oregano
Cheese (as much as you like, but I used 2)
For the Bechamel sauce
2 tbs of flour
2 tbs of butter
2 tbs of milk
Garlic powder
Salt
Pepper
Steps of making
- Cook the sauce – melted the butter, put flour, mixed until it’s clumped, put milk, garlic powder, salt, pepper and mix until it’s not clumped, then put aside
- Heat the oven with 200° C
- Prepare the bread – slice one side of the bread with mustard, and the other side with butter, put cheese between the bread, turn on the stove, put the pan, melt the butter, put the bread on the on the pan and flipped each side until it’s golden brown, spread the Bechamel sauce on the top the bread, put the cheese on the top of the bread, put it in the oven for 15 minutes because we want to melt and give color to the cheese, in the meantime cook the egg, after 15 mins take out bread, put Salmon filet between breads, cut the cucumber pickle, spread mayonnaise and chili sauce on the bread, sprinkle roasted onions, voila! Your Croque Madame is ready!
Btw here is the answer for the difference between the Croque Madame and Monsieur 😀 Well, Croque Madame has an egg topping and Croque Monsieur doesn’t. Just like in the real world, isn’t it? 😉
